Evidence of Magic presents five series of work by Edén Barrena. Barrena finds in her practice a tool to observe and analyze phenomena that is unfamiliar to her.
Edén Barrena is interested in the relationship between the self and the other, and the estrangement and conflicts generated by this encounter. By unfolding different mechanisms, her work reflects on the edges of subjectivity, travel, discovery, and representation of the unknown through the exercise of drawing.
Traveling is a crucial element of her creative practice since it positions the artist in the roles of the outsider and the other, experimenting first-hand the displacement of the foreigner. She uses print, drawing, animation and archival imagery to collect these confrontations and transmit the amazement to the viewer.
Edén Barrena was born in Badajoz, Spain, in 1991. She had studied fine art in German and Spain and got her MFA in Printmaking in the Royal College of Art in London.
